METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Then we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
